As I mentioned in my earlier blog, we recently had my son's 7th birthday and everything was Minecraft Themed! If you head on over to my Facebook page, you can watch the reel of all the goodies that we included in the bags for our guests.
One item that I was really excited about, were the Minecraft themed Perler bead necklaces that we made! These were easy in that they were just blocks (it made all the crafting for the party easier!). I was surprised how much time it took considering, about two hours to make 12 necklaces. It was definitely worth it, the kiddos really loved them.
Below are the materials that you would need, the patterns that I used from Pinterest, and tips and tricks I found along the way!!!

Supplies:

Perler beads
Necklace Cords (I ordered these from Amazon)
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Perler bead board
Iron or small mini press
Parchment Paper
Optional Supplies:
Felt
Sorting Tray:I found mine at the dollar tree!
Pro tip: If you have little ones around, you can use any of their divider plates as a sorting tray :)
The patterns I found on Pinterest:

I literally just used this as a guide when placing the Perler beads on their board. The best part of making these, is by nature sometimes a video game can be glitchy! I wasn't careful to use all the same pinks or purples, or greens...I found adding a lighter color or a surprise glow in the dark bead here or there made them better!
Once you have the beads all set on the board, you are going to just fuse them by heating with a iron or personal minpress. Make sure that you use parchment paper in between the iron and the beads :P I recommend pressing 10-20 secs per side. So I would press one side, LET IT COOL, and carefully take it off the board, flip it and do another 10-20 seconds on the other side.
After all of the beads had cooled, I attached the necklace cords. Honestly, I didn't do any thing fancy! Just a glob of hot glue with the hot glue gun to attach it! I did let the glue cool, and add and extra dab on top, just to make sure it was secure.
Finally, I cut squares out of my felt, and glued them on the back to make the necklace more secure. This is totally optional, but I'm glad that I did. It definitely made them more sturdy!
I think they came out really well, and the kids really loved them. This would be a craft that the kiddos could assist with.
